Leslie Wilkin

Over the last 15 years, I have practiced as a social worker, counsellor and yoga teacher in the areas of trauma, violence against women, mental health and substance use. I found my way to this work through activism and lived experience, and my experience has involved direct clinical assessment and counselling, program development, group facilitation and professional training. At the core of my practice is the belief that safe relational connection is vital for recovery, healing and growth.

I hold both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Social Work and have completed advanced training in the areas of PTSD, relational/attachment trauma, somatic (body-based) therapy and anxiety disorders. My diverse experience includes community outreach, crisis intervention, inpatient mental health, and outpatient therapy settings.

As a yoga teacher, I have developed and taught classes in mental health and addictions programs, and am an established trainer in the area of trauma-sensitive yoga. I am an inspired student of permaculture and herbalism and draw deeply on the healing resources of nature. I view our experiences through the lens of systems and relationships - social systems, family systems, relationship to ourselves, others and the natural world.

A bit more about me: I am of Irish & British ancestry, living as a settler on the unceded territory of the Snuneymuxw and Snaw’naw’as Mustimuxw people (Nanaimo BC) with my partner, dog, cats, and chickens. I’m a movement and DIY enthusiast and introvert who loves growing my own food and medicine, moving around outside, and trying endlessly to simplify my life.
